Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago

The Guinness Open Gate Brewery is the mecca of St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago. But the problem is, it’s 2 miles from the downtown festivities.

How do we get people there? Turn the journey into a game to redeem free prizes. Introducing, Pursuit of the Pint.

This campaign was done in partnership with Jack Morton Worldwide Chicago

The Pint Pursuit App

COINS

This St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness Open Gate Brewery Chicago is giving you all the lucky loot you can imagine. In the spirit of the true Chicago-style celebration, we’re calling everyone to scour the city in search of coins — all for the love of Guinness. Follow a three-step process : download our app to collect coins, make your way to the brewery, and redeem your prizes when you arrive.

Gold coins are the most common and therefore worth the least

Green coins are semi rare and worth the equivalent of about 10 gold coins

The Guinness coin is the most rare and unlocks the top prizes

Promotion

Guinness Games

Guinness OGBC will promote the app on TouchTunes with games that people can play to earn coins, encouraging them to download the app to redeem them.

Coin Clues on Social

For those who have committed to Pursuit of the Pint in advance, we’ll post Golden Coin clues on Guinness & OBGC’s social channels leading up to the celebration – giving Guinness fans clues as to where the best coins are hidden.

The Lucky Stout

In March, we’re christening “The Lucky Stout” – Guinness OGBC’s own boat.

In true Chicago Architecture Tour style, we’ll have a few Irish history buffs sharing fun facts about Guinness’ legacy and Chicago’s rich Irish history. Guests will enjoy a drink and let the games begin by downloading Pint Pursuit upon boarding.

As we near St. Patrick’s Day, the giant Guinness glass will fill up as the electronic calendar counts down, spilling and helping dye the river green.

This is a reflection space. Reflect on what you just saw. It is certainly not a space I can’t figure out how to get rid of because squarespace is confusing and scary to me…

The Pursuit

There will by 4 paths in the pursuit: The Lucky Stout, The Leprechaun Line, Coin Cabs, and on foot.

The Lucky Stout

After weeks of anticipation, our giant glass of Guinness will tip over and help turn the Chicago River green.

The boat will also serve as a ferry, dropping guests from downtown to near the OGBC. Guests can collect coins along the way, hop off at the end of the journey, and head straight to the brewery for a perfect pour of their own.

The Leprechaun Line

Chicago’s CTA Green line, which is the closest line to the brewery, will be decked out in its St. Paddy’s Day best and the name of the line will be officially changed by the CTA to the Leprechaun Line for the day. The OBGC Guinness Leprechaun himself will also be passing out awards for best costumes and most spirit on the train. Winners are rewarded with Guinness 0 beer (can’t catch a open container charge with that) and clues to find more coins.

Coin Cab

Guinness will team up Lyft to transport people to and from the brewery.

Riders who opt into the "Coin Cab" feature in the Lyft app will have discounted rides to and the chance to answer trivia questions and earn coins to be used at OGBC.

Also, no drunk driving, which is a plus for all of Chicago.

On Foot

During the river dyeing—god that word looks so wrong— we’ll pass out samples of our Guinness Non-Alcoholic beer. People who prefer to get their steps in can drink them on their walk, or people can grab them for the lucky stout or leperchaun line.

Each sample will come with a QR code attached, leading to the download page for the Pint Pursuit app.
